together with the field name.

required when searching these fields.

▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀
The highlighted fields on the previous screens are limit fields.
Combined with other search terms, these are particularly useful for
focusing or limiting a search. To search a limit field, use in or =
and the field abbreviation, e.g. 1984 in py or py=1984. Omitting
the field label retrieves information from "free text" fields only.
Numeric limit fields also use other special operators:
< (less than), e.g. py<1986
> (greater than), e.g. py>1984
<= (less than or equal to), e.g. py<=1985
>= (greater than or equal to), e.g. py>=1984
- indicates a range, e.g. py=1983-1986

There is a special limit field search, ai=ab, that allows you to
narrow your search results to those records that have abstracts. This
field will not appear in the record display; it is designed as a
search tool. For example, if you wish to retrieve only records with
abstracts for the topic diabetes, you may type diabetes and ai=ab.
Abstracts will not be found in MEDLINE records prior to 1975.
The following screens contain a brief discussion of each field,
including sample field-specific search requests.
Press PgDn for field descriptions.
